An rare offering from a celebrated New Zealand furniture maker.

Description
During the 1950's legendary furniture store Jon Jansen was at the cutting edge of progressive modern design. At the forefront of this push to introduce conservative New Zealanders to the latest in contemporary furniture was Jon Jansen's talented in-house designer Bob Roukema.
This rare mahogany sideboard is part of a larger range of furniture designed by Roukema. Each piece was crafted from solid timber with clean lines and a crisp lightness of form. A distinguishing feature of many of Roukema's designs are the pioneering outward splayed pin style legs which screw in and give the furniture an inspired lightness.
A 1955 photo of the Jon Jansen exhibit at the Easter Show displays an image of this sideboard in the top right corner. The matching desk (also in the photo) is in the permanent collection of the Auckland Museum. This is the only example of the sideboard we have seen.
