Six Philippe Starck 'Loulou' Chairs by Vitra
Philippe Starck has pushed the boundaries of contemporary design since the 1980s.
In the early 1990's Philippe Starck designed the 'Louis XX' chair for aspirational Swiss furniture maker Vitra. Today that chair is considered by Vitra to be one of the 100 masterpieces of 20th Century Chair Design and is included in their design museum. Starck named the chair Louis XX to poke fun at the French tradition of distinguishing kings of the same name by numbering them from IV to XVIII.
In 2002 Starck and Vitra revisited Louis XX to prepare it for the new millennium. The updated ascendant to the throne of design royalty was named the Loulou chair. Loulou is basically a slimline version of Louis XX ready to rule in a more nimble fashion. Loulou features the rigorous product testing and playful combination of materials that defined it's predecessor.
Loulou is a highly memorable chair which is extremely durable and suited to home or commercial purposes.
