G-Plan was a pioneering British furniture brand launched in 1953 by E. Gomme Ltd., a well-established furniture manufacturer based in High Wycombe. In response to the post-war demand for modern, functional furnishings, the company introduced the G-Plan range as a new, forward-thinking line that broke away from traditional design. It was one of the first British brands to offer coordinated furniture suites that consumers could buy piece-by-piece, allowing flexibility and affordability for the modern home.

The name “G-Plan” quickly became synonymous with sleek, modern living. Under the direction of Donald Gomme, the company embraced modernist design principles, focusing on clean lines, high-quality materials, and practicality. G-Plan also led the way in branding and marketing, producing glossy brochures and in-store displays that helped define a new era in domestic interiors.

A key moment in G-Plan’s evolution came in the 1960s when the company hired Danish designer Ib Kofod-Larsen to bring a Scandinavian aesthetic to the brand. His sleek teak and afromosia "Danish Range" introduced a sense of continental elegance and sophistication to British homes. Other in-house designers like V.B Wilkins helped evolve the G-Plan identity through the decades, crafting ranges that reflected changing tastes, from minimalist modernism to more luxurious styles in the 1970s.

G-Plan’s influence on British interiors was profound, and its furniture became a staple in middle-class homes. Though the brand waned in popularity by the late 20th century, it has since experienced a revival, with vintage G-Plan pieces now highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts.

At Mr Bigglesworthy, we’re proud to offer a curated selection of G-Plan furniture, distinctive pieces that bring a touch of British design heritage to contemporary interiors.
