Charles and Ray Eames home was a treasure trove of their eclectic tastes and wide-ranging sources of inspiration. Handcrafted objects from India, Mexico and Japan sit next to Eames’ furniture and plants.

Charles and Ray Eames nurtured a design imagination that knew few bounds. Best known for their groundbreaking contributions to architecture and furniture design, the Eames duo also infused their creative talents into their own home – the Case Study House No.8.

Below we've included a number of our favourite images of this iconic home. Some are by Julius Shulman who famously photographed many of the Case Study Houses. We think they are testament to the enduring fame of the Eames duo and their home. Charles and Ray Eames home was a treasure trove of their eclectic tastes and wide-ranging sources of inspiration. It’s easy to see their playful and collaborative approach to design throughout the space. We think it’s cool to see their individual talents and personalities coming together in their home. The industrial exterior, cladded in steel and glass is largely Charles’ influence, yet it is brought to life by Ray’s inclusion of colour, textiles, plants and art.

We were lucky to visit the Eames House a few years ago before Covid. It was a bit of a ‘pinch yourself, is this real’ moment we have to say, visiting their house. You can walk all the way around it but only enter once a year as the Eames Foundation operates from this home. Very special, very stunning, still entirely contemporary. An icon of architecture.

Consider adding a 20th century design icon to your home – they’re offerings you can keep for life and will always be proud of.
