Uniflex was a distinctive British furniture maker closely associated with the rise of mid-20th-century modern design in the UK. Originally established as L. Lazarus & Sons in the early 20th century, the company adopted the Uniflex name around the mid 1950s, signalling a move toward contemporary, adaptable furniture suited to modern living.

Based in East London, Uniflex became known during the 1950s and 1960s for embracing clean lines, functional forms, and progressive design principles at a time when British interiors were shifting away from heavy, traditional styles. The company worked with notable designers including Peter Hayward and German designer Gunther Hoffstead, whose influence helped shape Uniflex’s refined, architectural aesthetic. Hallmarks of the brand included minimalist silhouettes, integrated handles, sled or tapered legs, and a focus on proportion and usability.

Uniflex produced a wide range of domestic furniture, such as sideboards, wardrobes, dressing tables, and modular storage systems. Many pieces were crafted using high-quality veneers like teak and rosewood, offering a sense of understated luxury without excessive ornamentation. Although Uniflex was never a mass-market giant, its output is now highly sought after, celebrated for its craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and enduring appeal among collectors of British mid-century design.
