Cute Nils & Kajsa Strinning Sideboard by String Design AB
The architect couple Nils (Nisse) Strinning and Kajsa Strinning debuted as designers with a humble plate rack formed from steel wire, a design that would be refined over the years. In 1949 the couple designed the String bookshelf for a competition hosted by publishing company Bonnier and won first prize.
Greater success was quick to follow, in 1954 the String shelving system earned the couple an international design prize, a gold medal at the Milan Triennial. Today String shelving is a mid-century design icon and just as beautiful, functional and desirable as the day it was invented. This compact sideboard piece is a functional, standalone component of the design with teak construction and functional sliding doors.
Each piece is checked and carefully hand restored at our Kingsland studio workshop. Our focus is preserving the character and patina of the design while ensuring it displays beautifully in a contemporary interior.
