Description

Parker Furniture has a legacy for creating some of the finest Australasian mid-century furniture. The advertising catch phrase of the day proudly proclaimed that the designs are 'for those who make living a fine art'. With Tony Parker interpreting the finest Scandinavian designs for a south pacific audience, it was a statement that quickly rang true.

This cute and compact teak sofa offers a cosy and refined space just large enough for two. Not just eye candy for the lounge, this stunning sofa is also deceptively comfortable. We have upholstered the cushions in a crisp designer fabric that complements the sculpted design of the frame.

1935 - 1997

1935 was the year it all began. Not exactly the best time to start a new furniture company - the world had just been rocked by the Great Depression and most people were unemployed. Jack Parker wasn't about to let that stop him, he formed a company with carpenter Alf Dagger named Dagger and Parker.

The pair initially specialised in kitchen furniture. Times were tough but in spite of this, the company flourished and the product range widened to include most household furniture. Success was built on a simple philosophy: continually seeking perfection in design and craftsmanship. In 1947 Alf Dagger left the partnership and the business was renamed Parker Furniture.

Jack's eldest son Tony joined the business in 1949. At night, Tony studied design at East Sydney Technical College. On completing his studies, Tony travelled to Europe and worked for John Lewis in Oxford Street, in London, where he helped in developing their modern furniture section. Tony returned to Australia in 1953 and persuaded his father to let him design a range of modern furniture. The Mid-Century range, made from Queensland maple was released at the Sydney Furniture Exhibition to great acclaim.

Throughout the 50s, 60s and 70s with Tony Parker interpreting the latest international styles the company went from strength to strength. Parker was at the forefront of furniture production throughout this time - creating many iconic pieces of the highest construction and design quality.
