Deluxe Hvidt & Molgaard-Nielsen Woven 'X' Chair by Fritz Hansen
A beautiful example of the “X-Chair” by the Danish designers' Hvidt & Molgaard-Nielsen. The name originates from the distinctive X-shaped side frames of the chair creating a flowing, unbroken lines of the profile view.
In 1959, the maker, Fritz Hansen who was a specialist in laminate wood – developed the technique called ‘steam bending’, which ultimately led it to become the world leader in the field. The bentwood side frames form an important detail, as Hvidt and Mølgaard-Nielsen developed a specific technique of building up layers of laminate around a solid centre. The patinated brass crossbars provide a contemporary air while the seat and back are comprised of the original, neatly woven cane, completing the chair with an organic look.
Each piece is checked and carefully restored at our Kingsland studio workshop. Our focus is preserving the character and patina of the design while ensuring it displays beautifully in a contemporary interior.
