Iconic Frederick Scott 'Supporto' Office Chair by Hille
The Supporto Office Chair is an important design in the history of task seating – designed by Frederick Scott as ‘An office chair designed to cut through the hierarchy of office seating’.
The form is based on detailed ergonomic studies of how people actually sit while working. The aluminium shell is cast to the contours of the body, with particular attention to the lower back. A slim line curved backrest and sculpted seat base are teamed with elegant, padded arm rests and a five point castor base.
This design has become an icon and was selected by Jony Ive for the Apple Industrial Design Centre in Cupertino, California. An example is held by the Victoria and Albert Museum. In 1991 the International Federation of Architects voted the System Supporto chair “the chair that most influenced modern office seating".
