This memorable sofa from local furniture maker Morgan, the self proclaimed 'Chairmen of New Zealand', is a classic example of mid-century New Zealand design. The sofa features an organic, vibrant mahogany frame that not only looks stunning but gives the sofa a lightness of form that is rarely matched.
This sofa also has a clever mechanism that allows the back to fold down into a convenient daybed. It's the perfect character piece for any contemporary lounge or modern living area. Equally, it's right at home in the bedroom or make it a centrepiece in a classic Kiwi bach.
Each piece is checked and carefully hand restored at our Kingsland studio workshop. Our focus is preserving the character and patina of the design while ensuring it displays beautifully in a contemporary interior...

Refined NZ Made Mid-Century Folding Sofa By Morgan
GOOD FORM, 86 Newton Rd, Eden Terrace, Auckland.
Things began in the early 1940s when Jack Morgan, a trained joiner and upholsterer, decided to step out and open his own store. He found a small shop at 315 Victoria Street West in Auckland and early in June 1944 the firm of JD Morgan opened its doors.
The small furniture company quickly expanded and by 1950 it included Jack's brother George. Further expansion meant a 2000 sq/f disused stable was purchased in Northcote which was then a semi rural suburb of Auckland. (Originally the building was used to stable horses for pulling trams to the North Shore ferries).
By the 1960s, local tastes had veered towards the clean lines of the Scandinavian style. Morgan Furniture catered to this market with designs based on international pieces. It offered enduring style, quality construction and the use of radiant Sapele Mahogany timber.
