George Mulhauser's 'Mr. Chair' is an icon of mid-century American furniture and interior style. It was designed for furniture brand Directional and produced by Plycraft. The Mr. Chair is a dangerously comfortable place to sit. The focus here is refined comfort matched perfectly with stylish design and a lightness of form.
The memorable design features an innovative one piece molded plywood shell in walnut that forms the curvaceous body of the chair. This is elevated by a buttoned seat that references the traditional Chesterfield sofa often found in gentleman's clubs. This classic mid-century design will stand out and turn heads in any contemporary interior.
This chair is the Mr. Chair Version II, which Mulhauser designed in 1961, a year after the original version. It features an updated and more streamlined four point base.
