Pair of Howard Keith 'Bambino' Chairs for Jon Jansen
A sleek number from one of the UK's most regarded furniture makers.
During the 1950's the groundbreaking furniture store Jon Jansen was paving the way for contemporary design in New Zealand. To ensure a reputation at the cutting edge, the store stocked a range of international pieces from some of the most progressive furniture makers.
This offering from British furniture maker Howard Keith perfectly captures the progressive postwar aesthetic. With its refined organic curves in vibrant mahogany and elegant lightness of form this stunning armchair was quickly embraced by style conscious New Zealanders.
The use of mahogany in the show-wood arms and legs suggests these chairs were produced under licence in New Zealand by the Jon Jansen workshop rather than imported from the UK.
