Description

From it's prized place in the permanent collection of the MoMA to stylish interiors throughout the world, the Eames lounge chair is an icon of inspired 20th century design. The Lounger is modern interpretation of the classic club style armchair, with a desire for the design to have "the warm, receptive look of a well-used first baseman's mitt".

This locally produced version was made in New Zealand under licence by Keith Whitmore and retailed through Whitmore's high end furniture store in Christchurch called Whitmores Arti Domo. The chair was also sold through other premium stores such as Nova Interiors in Auckland and Wellington.

This is a stunning piece of New Zealand history and a tribute to the local producers and retailers committed to offering classic international designs in a time of prohibitive import restrictions.
