Eames RAR Rocker for Herman Miller
The RAR rocking chair is a celebrated icon of modern design.
The RAR (Rocking Armchair Rod) was Charles and Ray Eames first commercial success. The prototype was designed for MoMA's low cost furniture competition in 1948, where it won first prize. It is now recognised as one of the defining classics of modern design.
This iconic offering is deceptively simple and a brilliant example of the refined, playful and highly functional furniture designed by the Eames'. With it's organic shell, integrated armrests and modernist form the RAR was an instant hit with a generation or style conscious baby boomers.
This is a rare early edition dating from 1951 - 53.
